Breaking into a new niche can often be very difficult, however when I was given the opportunity, I seized it! I have been doing graphic design for about 18 or so years now, but never “professionally”, but we won’t get into the nitty gritty of my experience in this post.
Recently, I had a very dear friend of mine venting to me about how it was difficult for her to make her own book covers as she was an aspiring author. She also mentioned how she was frustrated that she wanted to make graphics and ensure her website looked professional as well. Ironically, at the same time, I was working through the idea to start this business, and turn my love and passion of graphic design and web design into a business! I mean, why not? I was already doing side jobs for friends here and there.
That is when I first collaborated with Caroline Cartier on the covers above. They were a bit basic, but each had their own flare while being cohesive and establishing a brand identity for Caroline. She was thrilled and became my first paying client here at Modern Revolutions Media!
Shortly after, Caroline was finishing her 5th book, something completely different than the series and wanted a different cover that would set it apart. Something eye-catching, that told a piece of the story, without giving too much information. This next one was a bit of a challenge and I enjoyed it just as much, although Caroline was giving me a run for my money at 12 AM with a ton of revisions!
That was when we finalized the cover for Not Without Affection. Caroline and I were extremely thrilled with the results and I couldn’t be happier to add it to my portfolio and break out into the world of book cover creation! I hope that I get to continue to create book covers for new and experienced author’s alike.
